This tight inner city site is confined on its two sides by houses built to their boundaries limiting access to sunlight, daylight and ventilation from the east and west (street face).
To address these constraints, the service spaces are collected around a stair at the heart of the plan where access to light and air is more limited.

Wherever possible, the plan is manipulated to provide windows to the central service spaces, & all are naturally lit and ventilated, with the exception of a ground floor WC.
All habitable rooms benefit from a full frontage to the external spaces, eliminating the undesirable aspects of obtaining light and air from a side orientation with poor outlook and a capacity to be built out.

The most privileged locations are preserved for the habitable rooms at the eastern and western extremities of the plan where the garden and street are available for light, air, access and outlook. These spaces are organised around two lines of circulation adjoining the northern and southern boundaries, while a stair traverses the plan to connect them.
