QUEENS PARK
ALTERATIONS & ADDITIONS

for Private Client
2007
The client's brief for this project was to reconfigure an open mezzanine to create a new bedroom, provide a place for a desk and achieve privacy to the bedroom from the living room below.
This allowed the existing window to be shared between the two spaces. The study shares the void area and skylight over the stair, associating it with its more generous and luminous volume.
This modest project ingeniously integrates a single piece of new joinery to divide an existing mezzanine into two rooms; a bedroom and a separate study. A concealed sliding door retracts into the joinery unit to separate the study from the bedroom. Windows to both spaces are retained by locating a pivot door at the head of the stair on a window mullion.
