VESSEL OF THE HORIZON

This site specific work was conceived to redirect the gaze of the “Sculpture by the Sea” audience from the land to the sea, but more specifically towards the horizon. The outward appearance of the work is
of a crude box held above the ground plane, with a clearly defined continuous slot at eye height.

This slot was designed to both draw the viewer in and to frame the horizon. Thence upon peering into the box, a more sensuous interior discovered. Conceptually the interior is the vessel for the horizon, responding to the fluctuating lighting of the day, reflecting and engaging with the diurnal variations of colour and light.
