My Ideal House - Competition

Can you design an affordable home, prefabricated for life long flexibility?

Imagine a young couple building a house for their future. They have big plans, but not a big bank balance or loan capacity. They build Redshift’s (My) Ideal House, just the first module: generous living, laundry, 2 storeys, 2 bedroom plus study nook and carport. It’s all they can afford, but it’s also all they need. Loved up and baby makes three.

Self employed and a close family, business is good so they build the second module. They both can now work from home in their new home office (with separate entry) and the addition forms a substantial courtyard.

Oops, timing not great, major downturn in the economy, times are a little tighter than anticipated. No problem, the house can be adapted. They put the rear studio addition up for Air BnB, the dual key entrance makes it ideal for their guests and the extra income is invaluable. Time moves fast in these parts, number two has arrived, their businesses are once again thriving, but sadly grandad has played his final par 3, passed away celebrating a hole-in-one a little too hard. The final module is added to the house. This provides the house with a separate bedroom for both kids and a self-contained granny flat out the back. Gran is delighted to be close to the grandkids and our now middle aged couple enjoy their date nights while gran looks after the kids. Ideal.

It’s expanded through future additions and therefore able to be adapted to the needs of the occupants. The ideal house adapts to your lifestyle, family circumstances, provide a place to live and if necessary a place to work. A place to expand or retreat, and if desired a place to share or let out.
